Agatised Fossil Palm & Petrified Wood

 

Agatised Fossil Palms can weigh
up to 600kg.  The deposit is composed only of
root sections and are typically pear shaped.
The agate replacement of the palm is
complete and it is very hard and dense.
Some big palms take 2 to 3 weeks
to drag from the jungle.

 
Agatsied Fossil Palms are sorted for "Specimen" or "Slabbing/Carving Rough". Full round Specimens with
skin intact and no cracks compose about 15% of production.
Specimen Palms are carfully checked after
pressure washing before being
photographed and catalogued.


The beauty of Agatised Fossil Palm rivals that of
Agatised Fossil Coral in finished product. 

Petrified Woods are common in Indonesia but
solid pieces without oxidising marcasite are rare.  
Well preserved and even agate replaced Specimens
are collected from several locations.
